    Cooking for parrots

I cook enough food to last 2 months for my family of 8. Woolworths were out of stock on many products that I use, drove from one store to the next.

Frozen sweet corn that I defrost in boiling water, drain and leave uncooked.

Rolled oats to draw up most of the moisture in the food to prevent freezer burn. Also leave uncooked.

Couscous is high in protein and vitamins. Very easy to prepare, 1 part raw couscous to 1 part boiling water. Cover and leave till water is absorbed, 5 - 10 minutes.

Quinoa and wild rice. I usually buy quinoa on its own but they were out of stock. It has a nutty flavor and is high in fiber.

Bulgur wheat, soak 1 part with 2 parts boiling water for 20 minutes.

Split red lentils. Gently boil 1 part with 2 parts water for 15 minutes. It must stay firm.

Red speckeled beans. Soak 1 part with 3 parts water for 8 hours. Drain and rinse, cover with water and bring to boil. Reduce and simmer for 45 minutes. Must be firm.

Chick peas, cover with water, 2 cm above peas and microwave on high for 3 minutes. Then leave to soak for 30 minutes. Rinse and cover with 4 times the amount of water and cook for 1 hour and 45 minutes till tender.

Cook in water for 20 minutes. Must be firm.

Pasta that I cook in food coloring, red, blue and green.

    As a treat dried fruit.

    Cut smaller and add.

    Chillies from my garden.

    Let me start cooking!
