I will be testing mine also, I did see that you had posted a way to test bulbs, just hadn't gotten to it yet.

I am a strong advocate of using a black sharpie marker to write the date installed, whenever I install a new bulb in a lamp. I have reminders on my cell phone calendar and they go off every 9 month. When they go off, I order a new bulb. I'm sure I'm wasting money because I'm short-cutting a couple of months off each bulb's life, but I don't care. This is one of the most important things an owner can do for their reptile.

    thanks again.

Sharon, I use old Mega Ray lamps instead of heating lamps.. Because they have some potential of UV and they heat. So for a while my lamps have more coverage area.

Irina, this is a good idea for extra heat during the daytime.

By the way, the quality of Mega Ray is higher than conventional mirror lamps. Those. they cost longer.

I am the opposite. I change them every 2 years

    BUT

I do not use them for about 4 months each year (roughly around May-August).
So the months used are the appropriate ones.

I like your idea, Irina. I have been keeping the latest 2 lamps every time I changed, just in case I had an emergency.
(I try to always have the one I am currently using, one fresh and 2 old ones. Because products are not immediately available in Greece and I need to feel safe)

Each of us uses old lamps in the most convenient way.
